The certification is administered by IBHBOT for medical personnel supporting diving and hyperbaric-related operations in non-traditional clinical environments.

Certification is intended for individuals working within the scope of their professional licensure and under applicable medical oversight.

Important: DMT certification does not replace, expand, or supersede an individual's primary professional license.

What DMT-Certified Professionals Do

DMT certification applies to medical personnel supporting diving and hyperbaric operations in operational, industrial, and remote environments. Certified Diving Medical Technicians may be involved in:

  • Medical support for diving operations
  • Monitoring diver health and operational readiness
  • Supporting hyperbaric treatment related to dive operations
  • Adhering to operational safety protocols and medical guidelines
  • Coordinating with supervising medical authorities and operational leadership

All medical authority and patient care responsibilities remain governed by applicable laws, regulations, organizational policies, and medical oversight.

Eligibility Requirements

General Eligibility Criteria

Applicants for the DMT certification must meet defined eligibility requirements, which may include:

Medical Licensure

Professional medical licensure or credentialing appropriate to the applicant's role in diving and operational medical support.

Dive Medicine Education

Completion of required education or training related to dive medicine and operational medical support.

Operational Experience

Documented experience in diving, maritime, offshore, public safety, or remote medical environments.

DMT certification requires completion of education and training relevant to diving medicine and operational hyperbaric support. Education requirements:

Certification Process

How DMT Certification Works

Submit Application

Complete and submit a DMT certification application with all required supporting documentation.

Eligibility Verification

IBHBOT verifies eligibility criteria and reviews submitted documentation against certification standards.

IBHBOT Review

Application is reviewed by IBHBOT in accordance with established certification standards and policies.

Certification Issued

Upon successful completion of all requirements, DMT certification is issued and registry inclusion confirmed.

Certification decisions are based on documented review and verification. Incomplete or insufficient documentation may delay or prevent certification.

Certification Validity & Maintenance

DMT certification is issued for a defined period and is subject to renewal requirements. Certification maintenance may include:

  • Ongoing compliance with program standards
  • Documentation of continued professional activity or education
  • Adherence to ethical and professional conduct expectations

Specific certification duration, renewal intervals, and maintenance requirements are outlined during the certification process.

Registry Inclusion

Certified Diving Medical Technicians may be included in the IBHBOT professional registry, where applicable. Registry inclusion:

  • Does not imply licensure or independent medical authority
